My Counselling Style

My style of counselling is Eclectic.  This means that I utilize a broad range of counselling approaches to meet the individual need of the client. For example psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural, person centred; terms you may have heard before.  Central to my practice is the belief that, whilst clients may present with similar issues, their experience and the problems that may arise are very individual to them and therefore work with them in accordance of this belief.

In presenting for counselling suggests to me that you have come to a point in your life where you feel things could be different for you. This might be for a number of different reasons,

  • A change of career
  • The need to make an important decision
  • To improve your well being
  • To feel more equipped to manage difficult thoughts, behaviours or emotions

My aim is to work with you to help identify how you would like things to be and work through a collaborative process of reaching a different outcome.

My experience

I worked for ten years in a women’s only educational establishment offering counselling support and guidance.  Following this I worked with male offenders for 18 months on a prison addictions programme, providing individual and psychotherapeutic group therapy.  For the past eight years I have been working as a substance misuse worker with homeless people, presenting with co-concurring mental health and addiction issues

My knowledge and training

I am a fully qualified addictions counsellor trained to foundation degree level.
I hold a certificate in the theory and practice of counselling and have a practical certificate in Transactional Analysis.
